Diarrhea is a kind of disease which causes loose and watery stools several times in a day. It may cause bowel disturbances and colic pain. It may last two days to 4 weeks if not treated properly. It may be acute or chronic.
Diarrhea may be cause due to bacterial or viral infection or due to contaminated food. Digestive system disorders, Liver Disease, Tuberculosis of Intestine, Crohn’s Disease may also causes diarrhea.
The most common pathogen cause this disease are Salmonella, Campylobactor, and Shigella.
There are various reason which may cause diarrhea, these are as follows:-
- Contaminated Food
- Heat Wave or Cold Wave
- Allergy to any food
- Drug related diarrhea
Childhood diarrhea caused by rotavirus is the main bacteria causes severe diarrhea in childrens.
Symptoms of Diarrhea
There are several symptoms associated with diarrhea and patient may feel any of them or in combination of the following:-
- Abdominal Cramping
- Bloody motions
- Large volume of Stools
Treatment of Diarrhea
Mild diarrhea may resolve without any special treatment. But in severe cases medication is necessary. Most of the patients face dehydration problem as all the fluids are excreted with diarrhea which causes a lot of weakness.
Diarrhea patient should have to take fluid regularly and some nutritional foods which helps in controlling weakness.
Role of ORS amongs childrens plays a key role in overcoming diarrhea and at every hours ORS solution should be given to the childrens.
Antibiotics treats diarrhea which is caused by the bacteria only. There are plenty of medication which helps in controlling the diarrhea like Metronidazole, Tinidazole, ornidazole. These medicines are effective in the management of Diarrhea.
There are several anti-diarrheal medicine like loperamide, imodium which is effective against diarrhea.
